Optometry Giving Sight and World Sight Day
World Sight Day was on October 11 this year. The World Sight Day Challenge is a major, international fundraising campaign. It’s coordinated by Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) as a way to bring the global optometric community together and help end avoidable blindness and vision impairment. There are more than 1.2 billion people around the world who are blind or vision impaired because they don’t have access to an eye exam and a pair of glasses. This includes millions of children whose futurs depend on the vision correction they need to learn at school.
Our practice has been a strong supporter of Optometry Giving Sight and the World Sight Day Challenge for over 10 years. Each year all of the staff – including yours truly – wear our lovely (and specially designed) OGS T-shirts all day in the practice to highlight that it is World Sight Day and that we are proud to be part of this wonderful fundraising initiative. Our patients have always been very generous in their support of this very worthy cause and the practice has always had a policy of matching the donations from our patients on a one-for-one basis. This year we raised $410 so along with our matched donation – a fabulous $820 is going to Optometry Giving Sight this year.
